Leah Jones, Leah Jones →
High school senior Leah Jones loves nothing more than flying. While she’s in the air, it’s easy to forget life with her absentee mother at the low-rent end of a South Carolina beach town. When her flight instructor, Mr. Hall, hires her to fly for his banner advertising business, she sees it as her ticket out of the trailer park. And when he dies suddenly, she’s afraid her flying career is gone forever.
I wonder if author Jennifer Echols knows about a pilot named Leah Jones. Once upon a time, she was the first hit on Google for our shared name. One of the first women pilots, I felt guilty when my Google rankings passed hers a few years ago.
Happy coincidence or a way to honor her?
Found the author on Twitter. The answer is no - she didn’t know about Piper Cub pilot Leah Jones when she named her leading lady, but she agrees she seems like an extremely cool lady.

I rode the lake path down to Prentice Hospital to meet Baby Mo and smoke a cigar with the proud papa. I took some bourbon in a water bottle, ginger snaps, cokes and we went to the lake path, smoked cigars and told stories.
Mazel tov to Patty, Brian and Baby Mo!

Been awhile.. the heatwave last week put me in cabs almost daily.
But I was finally able to ride my bike to the train this morning and hope to recommit to riding to the metra if I can’t handle the full commute.
I psych myself out every day and just get frustrated by my own limitations, then I don’t ride, then I feel guilty and I sleep more…
blah blah blah.
i did ride today.
